During Expedition 1, my dear friend and gaming battle-buddy, Anellium, began the construction of a beach house right along the coast of an island. Located on the lush Laph, in the Mesbera Star System (Euclid), it was a lovely, light-filled wooden hut with a balcony overlooking the sea.
Fast forward five months, and the base has been transformed into a Post-Apocalyptic Outpost, complete with various patinas on buildings and surfaces, graffiti, and industrial refuse scattered about the compound.
A happy accident (and what I believe propelled the transformation), the native brown grass has a tendency to overtake bases built directly on land. Rather than spending her time in-game mowing the lawn, she has allowed it to become part of the base’s story; feeding the narrative that this is rough settlement, on an alien world.
So many player-made homes in game are shiny and new. Beautiful glass creations soaring high above the landscape, complete with modern furniture and tech in every corner. It’s refreshing to see a base that actually looks like something a traveler built while mapping a planet, using found scrap and repurposed materials to create their settlement.
Perhaps another piece of the story is that elements of the base were created long ago by another traveler, and when happened upon by Ellie, rather than tearing down, she built on. The pipe that leads to nowhere evokes the feeling that something else has long since deteriorated.
Ellie is constantly refining and building on her little island in paradise. One of my daily in-game routines is to hop over from my base on a neighboring island, and see what new element she has added, whether it’s a dormitory for her crew, mess hall and kitchen, or a towering glass lookout only reachable by teleportation.
Fun anecdote: Don’t let this planet type deceive you, Laph is indeed harsh (and I’m not talking about the blistering rain storms). Ellie attempted to park her exocraft near the coastline, and between the bouncing worms and the maniacal tentacle monsters, they pushed her Colossus right into the sea. Fauna: 1, Ellie: 0. She was able to capture the destruction mid-dump below.
I captured dozens of pictures, and narrowing down to the best elements was so difficult. Her base really is something that must be seen. If you’d like to keep tabs on her progress and changes, or just have a look for yourself, glyphs are below - but you’ll have to hunt for the actual base on your own. 😉
Edit: If you have a base you’d like featured in a future Base Spotlight, email me at nms.galacticwanderer@gmail.com.

This looks amazing!
